Kynttilöitä / Candles

Väkersin erilaisia kynttilänjalkoja rautalangasta, liimasta ja korun osista. En olisi aiemmin uskonut että kärsivällisyyteni riittää tällaiseen, liimaa on kyllä enemmän käsissä kuin tuotoksissa.
Kynttilät tein synttärikakun kynttilöistä. Dippasin ne kuumaan veteen, että pintakuviointi lähti ja ohenivat hieman.

I made candle holders out of wire, glue and jewellery parts. I never would have thought I have the patience for something like this. There is more glue on my hands than in the stuff I made though. 
The candles I made from birthday cake candles. I dipped them in hot water to smooth them out and make them slimmer.

Maalattu mattamustalla emalimaalilla. / Painted with matt black enamel paint.

Kattokruunu olohuoneeseen. / Chandelier for the living room.

Kappas, muistin laittaa jotakin mittakaavaksi. / I finally remembered to put something in there for scale.

Etummaiset on tehty nepparin osista. / Two in the front are made from press stud parts.

Seinäkiinnikkeinä neodymium magneetteja. / Neodymium magnets as wall fasteners.

Kellarin ovi / Cellar door

Portaiden alla oli käyttämätön tila ja halusin hyödyntää sen jotenkin. Piti siis tehdä ovi ja vaikka talossa ei kellaria olekaan, niin päätin silti, että se on kellarin ovi.

There was an unused space under the stairs and I wanted to make use of it. I needed to make a door and I decided that it is a cellar door, even if the house doesn't have a cellar. 

Portaiden alapuoli tulee näkymään yläreunasta, mutta ei ovi pienempikään voi olla.  / The underside of the stairs will be visible, but the doot can't be any smaller.

Mies joutui taas osallistumaan. / My husband had to participate again.

Vinossa, mutta valmis. / Crooked but finished.

Magneetteja / Magnets

Halusin helpon tavan kiinnittää tauluja ja pikku-hyllyjä seinille, joten maalasin takaseinän magneettimaalilla. Pitää varmaan vielä maalata muutkin seinät, kun maalia vielä jäi.

I wanted an easy way to attach pictures and small shelves on the walls, so I painted the back wall with magnetic paint. There is still some paint left, so I think I will paint the rest of the walls too.

Maalin päälle tulee tapetit. Ajattelin keittiöön art deco-tyylistä tapettia, mutta en ole vielä aivan varma onko se kamala vai ihana.

There will be wallpaper over the paint. I was planning to put art deco-style wallpaper in the kitchen, but I'm not sure if I like it or not.

Hylly pysyy tukevasti kiinni. / The shelf stays on nicely.

Kuten kuvista näkyy, jätin maalamatta pistorasiat. En tiedä toimivatko ne, enkä ole varma haluanko taloon sähköjä, mutta pidän sen mahdollisuuden avoimena.

As you can see from the pictures, I left the electrical outlets unpainted. I don't know if they work, or if I even want the house to have electricity, but I am keeping the option open.

Hyllyjä / shelves

Kokeilin tehdä hyllyjä kuuluisista Bilteman sytyketikuista. Mies sahasi ja auttoi paljon muussakin. Meillä ei oikein ole kunnollisia välineitä tällaiseen. Pienempi seinälle ripustettava hylly onnistui paremmin, mutta isomman liimasin aika vinksalleen. Maalasin molemmat mustalla akryylimaalilla.

I tried making shelves out of the famous (at least in Finland) Biltema´s tindersticks. These are very popular for making dollhouse stuff here. My husband sawed and helped a lot with these. We don't really have the proper tools for this. The smaller shelf came out better, but I glued the bigger one all wonky. I painted both with black acrylic paint. 

Mustaa maalia / Paint it black

Vanhojen kalusteiden iloiset värit eivät oikein sopineet kuvioihin.

The old furniture was too colorful. 

Sisäinen goottini käski maalata kaiken mustaksi. Osa on maalattu kiiltävällä mustalla ja osa puolimatalla.

My inner goth told me to paint them all black. Some of them are glossy black and some semi-matte.

Nojatuoli / Armchair

Törmäsin ohjeeseen, jossa tehtiin sohva pahvista, liimasta ja kankaasta. Halusin nojatuolin joten oli pakko kokeilla mitä saisin aikaiseksi. Liiman kanssa tuli sotattua, mutta muuten tuosta tuli yllättävän hieno.

I found a tutorial on how to make a sofa out of cardboard, glue and fabric. I wanted an armchair, so I had to try it out. I made a mess with the glue, but otherwise it turned out surprisingly good.

Väri on luonnossa vähän tummempi. / The color is a bit darker in nature.

Talon romautus / Taking down the house

Päätin, että talo on helpompi tapetoida osissa, joten purin sen kokonaan. Pelottava homma, mutta sain sen kunnialla tehtyä. Muutama pieni vaurio tuli, mutta ne olivat korjattavissa. Toivottavasti osaan koota talon sitten kun sen aika tulee!
En tajunnut kuvata prosessia, mutta tässä blogissa sama homma on hyvin dokumentoitu. 

I decided that it will be easier to put on the wallpapers if the house is taken apart. It was scary, but I managed it. There were a few minor damages, but they were fixable. I hope that when the time comes I can put the house back together! 
I didn´t take pictures, but the same process is well documented in this blog. It is in finnish, but the pictures tell a lot.

Kirjoja / Books

Koska on mukavampi näpertää pikkujuttuja kuin aloittaa itse remonttia, tein kirjoja. Niistä tuli kulahtaneen näköisiä, mutta sehän sopii tähän taloon.

Because it is more fun to do little stuff, than start the renovation, I made tiny books. They came out looking worn, but that will be fine in this house.

 Helppo ja nopea tapa tehdä kirjahyllyyn täytettä: Printtasin kirjan kansia, liimasin ne pahvin reunaan ja leikkasin irti. Aion tehdä joskus vielä ihan avattaviakin kirjoja näiden seuraksi.

Quick and easy way to fill your bookshelf: I printed some book covers, glued them on the edge of cardboard and cut out. I am planning to make books with real pages too sometime.

Puuhella / Wood stove

Koska olen niin käytännönläheinen, päätin aloittaa, en suinkaan itse talosta, vaan puuhellasta. Muoto miellytti silmää, muovisuus ei.

Because I am so practical, i decided to start, not with the house, but the wood stove. I like the shape. 

Aluksi maalasin koko höskän mustaksi. Se oli hieno näin, mutta kaipasi jotakin eloa...

At first I painted the whole thing black. I liked it, but it needed a little something...

 Mattamustaa ja hopeista emalimaalia. Levyiksi kieputin rautalankaa. En ole ennen maalannut mitään pikkutarkkoja juttuja ja se tuotti hieman vaikeuksia.

Matte black and silver enamel paint. For the plates I used wire. I have never painted small things before, so it was challenging.

Toivottavasti kehityn tässä valokuvien ottamisessa.

I hope I will get better in taking pictures.

Alku / Beginning

Pienet kopiot oikean elämän esineistä ovat oudon kiehtovia. Olen aina ihaillut miniatyyrejä ja erityisesti nukkekoteja, mutta en ole aikaisemmin löytänyt tekosyytä aloittaa nukkekotiharrastusta. Nyt sellainen kuitenkin osui kohdalle: Jo pois annettu, oma lapsuuteni Lundby-nukkekoti päätyi takaisin käsiini.

Little copies of real life objects are oddly facinating. I have always liked miniatures, especially dollhouses, but I have never found an excuse to own one. Now I got one: The Lundby-dollhouse from my childhood, that was given away, has found it's way back to me.

 Tästä siis alan muokata mieleistäni. Katto on lähdössä irti, yhden ikkunan "lasi", savupiippu ja yläkerran kaide ovat irti, mutta tallessa. Myös vanhoja kalusteita on pysynyt matkassa, mutta ne ovat rumia muovisia. Yritän muokata osan niistäkin käyttöön.

This is what I'm starting out with. The roof is coming off, one window "glass", the chimney and upstairs railing are detached. I also have some of the old furniture, but they are ugly plastic ones. I will try to make something out of some of those too.

En halua tästä talosta perinteistä hempeää perheen kotia. Suunnitelmissa on noituuksia ja kissoja... paljon kissoja.

I don´t want this house to be a traditional sweet family home. I´m planning witchcraft and cats... a lot of cats.
